Santa Ema Syrah Barrel Select 2005
Variety: 100% Syrah
Country of origin: Chile
Wine appellation: Cachapoal Valley, Peumo
Vintage: 2005
Alcohol content: 14.0%
Color: blackish red
Bouquet: expressive overripe black cherries, blackberries, coffee, black chocolate, senses jammy and slightly alcoholic
Taste: medium to full body, very round, forest fruit preserve, very overripe black cherries, hint of coffee, dense concentrated fruit, lower acidity, lower tannins, however very dry, medium to longer finish
Recommended food pairing: black chocolate
Overall score: 4+8+12+6+7= 87
Price: CZK 250 in 2009
Stopper: single piece of cork
Typical New World style, huge fruit, nicely balanced by black of chocolate and slight coffee due to bottle age. I used to be fan of these wines, but now I grew older and more mature (I hope:-)). I guess Lenka will finish it tomorrow o her own as this is really her style:-). The wine is at almost at the peak, otherwise the scoring would be lower and I wonder how I scored it back in 2009 upon its tasting in Prague Grobovka.

Very basic Gigondas, not much to add. It does not do any good for the appellation reputation

THis bottle proved that 2004 vintage, which had very high acidity was designed for cellar ageing. Initial sharp acidity was smoothened and supported by perfect minerality and herby character. For comparison check my tasting notes from January 2010.
