Tasting of Carmenere - Viu Manent Carmenere Reserva 2008

Country of origin: Argentina
Wine appellation: Mendoza
Vintage: 2008
Alcohol content: 14.5%
Color: dark red with garnet meniscus
Bouquet: very good combination of the fruit and secondary tones from the barrel, plums, overripe sweet cherries, smoke, black chocolate, leather, alcohol slightly standing out
Taste: medium to full body, overripe black cherries, with hint of plums, medium tannins, lower to medium acidity, medium tannins, coffee, black chocolate, longer finish
Overall score: 4+7.5+12+7+7.5=88
Price: CZK 200
Stopper: single piece cork
What I like on this wine is the smoke and coffee and chocolate element, which at the first sniff is stronger than the fruit, than it nicely integrates. On blind I would not guess new world, rather some mid Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux from hot vintage.
