This was a gift from my friend when visiting Rome, The wine has one big problem and that is : very high alcohol, Yesterday I opened it at 19°C and I could not drink it, how burning it was, today I am drinking it at 14°C and it is better, but alcohol is still dominating the wine in unpleasant way. I drank half bottle and I cannot take more. I will have to invent how to blend it with some Moravian reds I have with 11% of alcohol to make it drinkable.:-)

Quattrocchi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2006

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Slightly disappointing considering the expectation I had when opening this Cab, it would be much better if tannin's were higher. I think the problem is in plastic cork, which clearly did not sustain 6 years of aging and the wine is going down.

Woman would love this wine due to limited acidity  and sweet and gentle tannins with vanilla profile in the mouth. For me I used to like it more than 10 years ago. I remember when I first tasted Californian wines in 2000 in Corinthia Towers hotel,  I was amazed of the taste and different profile from Moravian reds. Now growing older I am not that huge fan of it unless it is not base Californian red but something more solid:-)

Simpatico Wines Secret Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Variety: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Country of origin: Australia
Wine appellation: Barossa valley
Vintage: 2010
Alcohol content: 14.5%
Color: dark red
Bouquet: typical and pure cassis tones, dominant is fruit above all, alcohol is slightly standing out
Taste: medium to full body, big black currant fruit, pure Cabernet style, round with good and surprisingly not extremely aggressive tannins considering the young age of the wine, medium to longer finish at the very end alcohol is slightly taking the dominant position
Recommended food pairing: duck liver pate
Overall score: 4+7+12+7+6+50=86
Price: AUD 18
Stopper: screw cap
This is the wine from one of the small winery in Barossa we visited. I remember this was one of the best ones there. Drinking it now with distance it's good to have this style of wine once a while (huge fruit) but I would get bored of that quickly. It still should be cellared for at least 3 years to get more soft and rounder tannins.

Very very nice Chardonnay. I got this as single bottle to try this one out, But I should have gotten at least 3. It would be interesting to compare it directly with the same vintage, variety and the same producer, but different region tasted in June 2012, which I really liked that I bought 6 case to my cellar:)

Víno Mikulov Sommelier Club Ryzlink Rýnský 2009 pozdní sběr

Vintage: 2009
Alcohol content: 13.0%

This is more fuller type of Riesling most likely due to hot 2009 vintage, It is interesting if you compare it with Riesling from the same producer, but 2008 vintage and different region tasted in June 2012, which for me was better.

Chateau Valtice Rulandské modré 2006 pozdní sběr

Variety: Pinot Noir

Wine appellation: Moravia, Mikulov sub-appellation, Valtice village, Za humny vineyard
Vintage: 2006
Alcohol content: 12.0%
Color: light red with garnet meniscus

Price: CZK 199
Stopper: cork
I remember we had this wine at one tasting of PN together with the same one, but 2007 vintage. This vintage (2006) was hot and the wine lack the finesse and structure of 2007, which was clearly better.Etiketa Rulandské modré 2006 pozdní sběr - Vinné sklepy Valtice, a.s.

MVZ Winemaker Selection Tramín Červený 2004 pozdní sběr

Variety: Traminer
Country of origin: Czech Republic
Wine appellation: Moravia, Znojmo sub-appellation, Vrbovec village, Šác vineyard
Vintage: 2004
Alcohol content: 11.5%
Color: golden yellow
Bouquet: spicy, dry orange peel, flowers
Taste: light to medium body, spices, similar to taste canned oranges, tangerine, excellent crisp acidity (most likely due to cold 2004 vintage), medium finish
Recommended food pairing: green chicken curry
Overall score: 4+8+11+5+6+50=84
Price: CZK 150 in 2006
Stopper: cork
Another finding from my cellar. Was a bit afraid when bringing up, but the cork was long and single piece in perfect condition, so as the wine. There is no bitterness and flabbiness Gewurztraminer sometimes can get into if there is no acidity. This wine is quite opposite, it is clean in the nose and very fresh and zesty in the palate with proper aged structure. It is more similar to Alsace than to Moravia.
