La Forge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Unfiltered 2012

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Country of origin: France
Wine appellation: Languedoc
Vintage: 2012
Alcohol content: 14.0%
Color: medium ruby red
Bouquet:  black sour cherries, hint of black currant, some earthiness and spices
Taste: medium body, gentle and rounder style, black cherries, black currant, lower acidity, black pepper, spices, medium finish
Overall score: 3+7+11+6+6=83
Price: CZK 179
Stopper: cork
The wine is packaged in very heavy bottle, raising the expectations quite higher than the content does actually prove. However, it is nice, slightly earthy, style of Cab Sauv, but nothing groundbreaking. I would say it needs time to age a bit in the bottle as well to fully develop. For interest check the Syrah 2007 and Merlot 2005 from the same winery tasted in 2010 and 2009 respectively.

Everything I wrote here when tasted Merlot from the same producer holds. This Syrah is 2 years younger than the Merlot and it is noticeable, but I estimate it has higher potential. I would guess between 3 and 5 years. Very very solid wine and definitely with excellent price/value ratio. I will for sure get a case of this wine and store it for at least 3 years.

This is the wine I discovered in one small shop. I got three bottles; Merlot, CabSav and Syrah (really looking forward to it). The bottle is quite thick and heavy, itself it weighs about the same as standard full wine bottle. The wine is really nice, lots of dark cherries and fruit accompanied by hint of chocalate from the oak. This is unfiltered wine, had a lot of sediment and has good aging potential. Not a BIG wine, but very nice solid wine and definitelly excellent price/value ratio. I will definitelly return and get a case of this and also looking forward to taste CS and Syrah from this producer. Luckilly the shop does have 05 or 06 vintage, not younger.
