Sileni Tahuna Merlot/Franc 2004

Variety: Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Country of origin: New Zealand
Wine appellation: Hawke's Bay
Vintage: 2004
Alcohol content: 14.0%
Color: medium garnet red with orange meniscus
Bouquet: canned sour cherries, chocolate
Taste: medium body, round, cherries marmalade, coffee, chocolate, hint of sweet spices, still nice acidity, medium to longer finish, warm at the end but not burning
Recommended food pairing: venison
Overall score: 4+8+12+6+6+50=86
Price: CZK 475 in 2007
Stopper: screw cap
Not as good as their Pinot but quite nicely balanced, properly aged right bank Bordeaux blend from NZ. To my surprise despite quite high alcohol level, it does not stand out at all neither in the nose nor taste. Overall its good, but quite expensive for what it delivers. Bought in 2007 here
