Castillo de Vagos Reserva 2000

Variety: Tempranillo
Country of origin: Spain
Wine appellation: La Mancha
Vintage: 2000
Alcohol content: 12.5%
Color: medium red, garnet tones, orange meniscus
Bouquet: coffee tones, canned sour cherries, licorice
Taste: medium body, round, very harmonic, sour cherries, again coffee, hint of vanilla
Recommended food pairing: game, even chocolate desserts
Overall score: 87
Stopper: cork
This was a "cheat" third sample as it was not from Rioja (later discovered when we revelaed the bottles). However it got very high marks from everyone and if not disqualified it would have won the tasting. I did not score it the highest, but I must admit that the taste and bouquet were very complex going towards coffee tones, there was less fruit in it. This is nice example of the wine at its peak aging.
